What kind of car is best for me?

I am 23, driving for 7 years, I have had 2 at fault accidents, once when I was 19 and once last week, I was driving a Saturn SL1, $10,800 damage and I walked away without a scratch. Now I need to pick a new car. I kind of suck at winter driving, I skid a lot, it snows about 4-5 months of the year here... I am wondering if I should go for an AWD SUV, I am thinking Ford Escape or Saturn VUE, or if I should stick with a small car like I had, I loved my little car, but with my record of crashing, skidding and getting stuck in too high snow, I am thinking I need something a little bigger. I picked my last car based on looks, I would like to make a better informed decision this time, so ANY advice would be greatly appreciated!! I am partial towards Saturn because I love dealing with them and also I was amazed at how well my car took the impact of my accident (I hit a 2007 Jeep something... it was much bigger than my car) my car was totalled but I wasn't hurt.. I want something safe...
